Preview, Tips and Best Bets for Toowoomba Saturday, September 24
Toowoomba's big day is Saturday, September 24. There are Weetwood and Toowiombas Cups, the first two-year-old race of the season and the undulating track. Some rain is forecast but with the rail true all horses should get their chance. HONORABLE SPIRIT is the best bet.
Tony Gollan is an old Toowoomba boy and loves coming here to win. Self-indulgent (9) was dominant last start in similar class to this. Ingear (4) chased Self -indulated ( 9) home last time. American Saint (5) impressed last preparation winning four of seven starts. Miss McKinley (8) has been improved by two outings. Jim Orman rides this track better than any.
UNCLE RUSS (5) is a powerful sprinter over 1000m. FUNNY MONEY (10) has come back in good order and led for a long way at Doomben last start. DOLLOP (2) was too good when resuming over 900m at the Gold Coast. Jim Byrne knows how to overcome a wide gate.
There is a Pat O'Shea Plate 1000m at Toowoomba on Saturday, September 24. There are seven acceptors for the race. BEDAUB (8) has had two trials and won the most recent. Russian Alliance (11) won his trial and has the benefit of local knowledge and a good gate. Felix the Scat (1) looked sharp at his recent trial. Mishani's MISHANI CRUISE (3) is taking the mount.
MADAME ODETTE (8) beat several of these horses last start at Doomben over 1350m. COCOBREW EXPRESS (1) is the highest rated horse in the field. Demo Delivera (4) won over this trip last time. Altar Boy (2) was a distant third to Lammer at Eagle Farm.
Tony and Maddy Sears have brought GOLDEEL back in good order. It's her first outing on her home track and Angela Jones carries 52kg. Don't Stop (1) has won four of seven starts here and won his only previous outing over this trip. Slow HANDS (3) was ridden upside-down at Doomben last start. He placed at his last previous start and with a more patient ride can hit the line. Irukandji (6) won a Group 3 at first start for Annabel Neasham.
Tony Gollan produced ULYSSES (6) in good order first-up. MOTOWATAPKE (3) had every chance at the Gold Coast last week when favourite. Jack Bruce has backed him up. Lincher (13) is resuming. He has a good record here and draws to do no work with Larry Cassidy. Scottish Prince (17) has recent form winning four of his past six starts.
Toowoomba Cup 2000m is on Saturday, September 24. John Smerdon has raced HONORABLE SPIRIT (10) back into form winning the Gold Coast Cup last time. Seat of Power (2) ran second to Honsoreable SPirIT in the same race last year. Aussie Nugget (3) won a Class 6 race at Doomben last start. Lindsay Hatch has campaigned Sayl (8) up North.
Tony Gollan's Toowoomba race is his home-town sprint. GARIBALDI (4) ran down AXE (10) last start at the Gold Coast. Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou will be hoping that FLYING CRAZY (3) will not be a graveyard for visiting horses. Grey Worm (8) has finally drawn a gate and Tegan Harrison might be enough to make a difference. WHAM (13) is freshened after chasing Tumbler Ridge and Go Wandji home at Doomben.
Lindsay Hatch could be in for a big day. For MY ANNIE disappointed at Kilcoy. Muhamed had every chance last start at Doomben. Brodie Loy stays on and he will get every opportunity to turn things around. Be Water My Friend is consistent and Mark Du Plessis knows him well. Rejoiced has won four of six starts.
