With the high-profile stars teeing it up at the Signature Event in Orlando, the Puerto Rico Open hands an opportunity to other PGA Tour members.
That’s been a frustration for Korn Ferry Tour graduates and new tour card holders since the start of the season, who have found appearances hard to come by.
And with 300 FedEx Cup points on the line, players will be keen to make their mark.
First played in 2008, it is the only PGA Tour event played on the Caribbean Island and was once considered a ‘cursed’ event.
No winner of the tournament had gone on to win another event, although Viktor Hovland broke the unofficial curse in 2020.
The Norwegian won the Mayakoba Golf Classic after his triumph in Puerto Rico earlier in the year.
As an alternate event, the winner does not earn a place in the Masters, but still receives a two-year PGA Tour exemption and entry into the PGA Championship as a Tour winner.
