Puerto Rico Open Odds & Favorites 2024: Hojgaard Paces Alternate Field in Rio Grande

Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico welcomes another field flush with mixed storylines as we break down the Puerto Rico Open odds from our best golf betting sites with Rasmus Hojgaard set as the betting favorite.

The Arnold Palmer Invitational odds are the main focus of the golf betting world this week; however, bettors can have much more to gain by attacking the Puerto Rico Open odds for the PGA Tour's alternate-field event.

The Puerto Rico Open field is much larger at 132 participants. Rasmus Hojgaard - No. 68 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) - is the betting favorite and Nico Echavarria will return to defend his 2023 title at Grand Reserve Colf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

The field is mixed with up-and-coming golfers looking for a PGA Tour breakthrough and veterans looking to get their game back in form. Tony Finau and Viktor Hovland are two recent winners of this event from that former category, as they went on to be PGA Tour stars.

Here's our breakdown of the Puerto Rico Open odds from our best sports betting sites.

Who is the Puerto Rico Open favorite?

Rasmus Hojgaard (+1600 via bet365)

Rasmus Hojgaard, brother of 2023 European Ryder Cup member Nicolai, enters his first PGA Tour event of 2024 at No. 68 in the OWGR. He's played four events on the DP World Tour to open the calendar year, with five straight finishes of T-11 or better, including a runner-up in the Ras Al Khaimah Championship in late January.

The 22-year-old Dane is a four-time winner on the DP World Tour, with three of those victories coming via a playoff. His last PGA Tour event was last year's co-sanctioned Genesis Scottish Open, in which he missed the cut. Prior to that was the 2022 Barracuda Championship, in which Hojgaard tied for 48th.

Hojgaard had more success on the PGA Tour early in 2022. He finished sixth in the Corales Puntacana Championship - against a field comparable to this - and he tied for 18th in the more competitive Valero Texas Open the following week.

He makes for a risky pick as the betting favorite, especially in an event that has served well for long-shot winners in the outright betting market.

How to bet on golf

Betting on golf involves understanding the various types of bets available and how to assess player performance. First, familiarize yourself with the different types of bets commonly offered in golf, including outright winner bets, each-way bets (which cover both a win and a top finish), head-to-head matchups between two players, and proposition bets on specific events within a tournament, such as hole-in-one occurrences or individual player performances on certain holes.

Once you've identified the types of bets you're interested in, research the players, course conditions, recent form, and other relevant factors that could influence outcomes. Pay attention to factors like player statistics, recent tournament performances, course history, and any injuries or changes in form that may affect a player's performance.
