Rachael Blackmore Grand National Preview: What Horse Is She Riding and What Are the Latest Odds?

Irish jockey Rachael Blackmore rode to fame in 2021, by becoming the first female to win the Grand National in the race’s long history. That’s far from being her only record. She was also the first woman to be a leading jockey at the Cheltenham Festival with six victories in 2021, including the prestigious Champion Hurdle. In 2022 she won the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Her career to date has been mighty impressive, and she even has a few awards to show off. Let’s run through a Rachael Blackmore Grand National preview ahead of today’s race.

Rachael Blackmore is going to compete on Ain’t That a Shame this year, a horse trained by Henry de Bromhead. The horse is a first time Grand National runner, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t win together. Last year’s winner was Noble Yeats, who was also a novice. Bookmakers didn’t initially put her in the top three to win this year’s race, but the day before the race the odds on Ain’t That A Shame shortened drastically. More on that further down the page. The horse has a total of ten starts and has won only two of them. Henry de Bromhead is one of the top trainers out there, and he even trained Minella Times for the 2021 Grand National, which was Blackmore’s most high-profile achievement to date.

Delta Work has been made favourite in most places, while Noble Yeats has drifted to as high as 14/1.

Meanwhile, Rachael Blackmore and Aint That a Shame are currently available with odds of up to 10/1. These odds are according to Paddy Power. But opinions vary significantly from one bookmaker to another. Let’s run through the Rachael Blackmore odds that you can get right now at top bookies:

2023 Grand National Schedule and News

Grand National Day

Although it’s a three-day event, the big race will be this Saturday at 17:15. The jockeys and horses will have to do two laps on the 4.5-mile track at Aintree Racecourse. Not only that but there are also 30 fences they need to jump successfully. 40 horses trying to do that on one track isn’t going to be easy, but only one will be the winner.

There are going to be six more races on Saturday you can watch excluding the main event:

  • EFT Systems Maghull Novices’ Steeple Chase – 13:45
  • Village Hotel Club Handicap Hurdle – 14:25

  • William Hill Freebooter Handicap Steeple Chase – 16:15
  • Weatherbys nhstallions.co.uk Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race – 18:20
