Railway Stakes Form Guide & Tips

1. Levante (Best Bet – $2.30)

Levante is the class runner in the field and she looks ready to strike after finishing fourth at Flemington behind fellow Kiwi Roch ‘N’ Horse at Group 1 level.

The stellar sprinter is a two-time winner at Te Rapa, and with 10 wins from 17 starts, we can’t find any negatives with her record.

We’re happy with the $2.30 price.

2. Justacanta ($26)

A past winner fresh up but he could struggle to keep up with them. He’s a nine-year-old and his best days could be behind him.

3. Imperatriz (Best Each Way – $5)

A talented type and we’re prepared to forgive her most recent failure at Matamata when running eighth behind La Crique.

She’s a nine-time winner from 14 starts and having Opie Bosson in the saddle helps. She is also unbeaten in three starts at Te Rapa, so she loves the course.

Include her at each-way odds.

4. Johny Johny ($16)

Johny Johny has made a good start to his career with five wins from nine starts, but this could be a level too high.

He started this preparation with a ninth behind Dragon Leap and he would need to find a few lengths to take out the feature.

5. Dragon Leap ($6.50)

He got the job done at Pukekohe by a length last start and that should be a solid form guide for the Railway Stakes.

He gets all favours off the inside draw, and although he needs to improve to win, he is a legitimate trifecta and first four chance.

6. Mr Jay Eight ($21)

He hasn’t been able to beat much easier fields than this, so we’re surprised by the $21 available with bookmakers.

We priced him around $35, so we’re not entertaining his odds.

7. Babylon Berlin ($9)

It has been a strange campaign for Babylon Berlin, who lost the rider at the start fresh up before running second behind Dragon Leap.

The five-year-old mare didn’t show her best form in Australia and the trip might have taken something out of her.

She’s good when she finds the lead, so we’re happy to include her.

8. Bonny Lass ($7.50)

Bonny Lass is always around the mark with six wins and four placings from 12 starts, so she’s another potential winning chance.

The daughter of Super Easy gets all favours from the draw and carrying 54kg is ideal.

9. Letzbeglam (Best Roughie – $10)

Letzbeglam was considered good enough to go to Australia and she finished third behind Written Beauty.

She comes off a win at Pukekohe when beating Sacred Satono, which came on an unsuitable heavy track.

She’s good enough to figure in the finish at the odds.

10. Malt Time ($26)

Malt Time is a nice type in her own right but we don’t think she’s a Group 1 contender.

She would need to find 2-3 lengths at least to push them close, so back her in something easier.

11. One More Time ($81)

Not running well enough as the odds suggest.
