Telegraph Handicap (NZ) Form Guide & Tips

1. Dragon Leap (Best Bet – $3.10)

Dragon Leap is the class runner of this field having finished fourth in the Railway Stakes last time out.

He’s a six-time winner of over $588,000, which is a great statistic for a New Zealand-based sprinter. We love his form, and he should be the one to beat.

2. Mercurial ($9.50)

Never too far away from the mark, but we would have priced him slightly higher than $9.50.

Third in the Railway Stakes after drifting out in the straight, so if he ran straight, he may have finished  closer.

Worth including in multiples.

3. Shamus ($6)

Loves racing at Trentham with six starts for three wins and two placings.

That’s his biggest asset, because he’s not at the same level as some of these runners but having track  experience helps.

Off the inside draw, we’re happy to include him.

4. Lincoln’s Kruz ($27)

Not running well enough this season to warrant attention, especially against this level of opposition.

5. Ifndoubtgetout ($27)

He comes off a win at Trentham, but we don’t think he’s Group 1 material. We don’t think he’s close to  winning this race.

6. Is That So ($13)

Another last start winner at Trentham. Defeated Express Yourself, but they didn’t break any records.

He will need to improve and find a couple of lengths based on that run.

7. Bonny Lass (Best Each Way – $4)

A lovely mare who is knocking on the door after placings behind Johny Johny, Mercurial, and Waitak.

Running second in the Railway is good enough form for this race, and we’re including her at the each way quote.

8. Maria Farina ($15)

Good enough to score a surprise win, so she enters first four calculations.

If she’s anywhere near her best, she’s good enough to win, and she has winning form at Trentham.

9. Express Yourself ($12)

15 starts for six wins and five placings. There is nothing wrong with her form, but we question her ability  at this level.

We would prefer to see her in something easier.

10. Not Guilty ($21)

Never too far away from the mark and she is a smart type on her day.

There are some smart types in this field, so we’re leaving her out of our selections.

11. Imwonderfultonight (Best Roughie – $15)

Worth including at the price following a second placing behind Maria Farina.

That form should measure up well and she’s still learning the game, which is an exciting thought.

Given the odds, we’re not leaving her out.
