Rangers v Servette preview

Rangers will be desperate to give their home fans something to cheer about on Wednesday night after their shock 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock Saturday evening in their opening match of the season.

Brad Lyons’ unanswered second half goal means that Michael Beale’s side are already three points behind their local rivals Celtic in their bid to prevent them from winning a 12th league title in 13 years.

The Gers sit down in 10th place after the first league game of the season, and will be eager to get back out on the pitch on Wednesday night under the lights to put in a much improved performance.

Servette have already made it through one Champions League qualifying tie to reach this third round stage, with the club aiming to qualify for the tournament for the first time since 1986.

The Swiss side defeated Belgian club Genk over two legs in the previous round, coming from behind in both ties force draws, before winning 4-1 on penalties after a 3-3 aggregate scoreline.

Rene Weiler’s side have already played five matches this season due to their participation in the Champions League second qualifying round and the early start to the Swiss Super League.

The Maroons have drawn four of their five matches this season, winning the other, which game in a 1-0 win over Grasshoppers in their opening match of the season.

Having finished second in the league last season, their highest league finish this century, Servette currently sit fifth in the table, three matches into the new season though remain unbeaten in all competitions.

Rangers v Servette betting tips

Rangers will be fired up to get back to winning ways in front of their home fans after the weekend’s disastrous opening day defeat to Kilmarnock.

Gers captain James Tavernier so often scores crucial goals for the Ibrox side, and is priced at 2/1 to score on Wednesday night with Betfred.

Servette’s Ivorian striker Chris Bedia has scored four goals in his five matches this season and could be worth a punt as he looks to give a first leg advantage to the Swiss side, and Betfred are offering 11/4 odds on him to find the back of the net.
