Seattle Mariners are still in a strong position to end their long postseason drought. They have a three-and-a-half-game lead over the Baltimore Orioles for the final American League wild-card spot. The team has lost eight of its last 11 games and is struggling to beat some of the worst teams in the league. George Kirby will start for Seattle against Martin Perez tonight.
Kirby had a rough outing last Thursday against Oakland. He has since had better results at home, with a 1.27 ERA in his last six home starts. Kirby has also pitched well against the Rangers. He and Perez have both had good results against them.
Kirby has won all three starts against Texas. Perez has only one win in three against Seattle. The Mariners hit better against LHP than against the pitcher. Julio Rodriguez is out until next week.
