Rating the Champions League drop-outs Man United could face in their Europa League play-off

Manchester United's 1-0 win against Real Sociedad was not enough to earn them top spot in Group E. Erik ten Hag's side will have to face a Champions League drop-out to advance in the tournament. The draw for the Europa League knockout round play-off is on November 7. Sportsmail has analysed the Champions' League clubs and rated them. They could face Barcelona, Ajax or Juventus in their Europa league play off.

Ajax were placed in a Champions League group with Napoli and Liverpool. Ajax lost four games in row, but they are still in the Eredivisie title race. They will play against Ten Hag's Red Devils in February. They are not a big enough team to qualify for the Champions' League knockouts.

Bayer Leverkusen are in the Bundesliga and are struggling for survival. United would be the favourites to win the Europa League play-off. Bayer Leverkusen have a difficult difficulty rating.  Xabi Alonso's side sneaked into third place in their Champions League group thanks to a 0-0 draw against Club Brugge and Atletico Madrid's defeat by Porto.

Barcelona were eliminated from the Champions League. They were third in a difficult group with Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Viktoria Plzen. Barcelona are favourites to qualify for the Europa League next season. The team is well-balanced with Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, Pedri and Gavi, Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha.

Sporting Lisbon are the easiest draw in the hat for Manchester United. United would be happy to draw the Portuguese side. Sporting Lisbon have struggled this season and lost four of their opening 11 league matches. Cristiano Ronaldo played for Sporting during his first spell. Manchester Utd could face a Champions League drop-out in their Europa League play-off.

Red Bull Salzburg are the team Manchester United could face in their Europa League play-off. Salzburg are Austrian champions and are leading the Bundesliga this season. They lost 4-0 to Milan in midweek and also lost to Dinamo Zagreb away from home. United expressed interest in Red Bull's summer target Benjamin Sesko.

Shakhtar Donetsk finished third in Group F. The travelling club won three of their six matches. They beat Real Madrid, Red Bull Leipzig and Celtic. Shakhtar's home games are played in Poland. Their league matches are often called off due to the conflict in Ukraine. Manchester United will play in Europa League play-off in February.

Sevilla are in the LaLiga relegation zone after the first 12 matches of the season. Sevilla were third in Champions League until their 3-0 victory against Copenhagen a fortnight ago. Jorge Sampaoli took charge at Sevila after Julen Lopetegui's woeful start to the campaign.

Juventus are currently seventh in Serie A and have already crashed out of the Champions League. They recorded fewer points than third-place team Manchester United at the end of Champions' League group stage. Juventus have a number of injured players, including Paul Pogba, Dusan Vlahovic, Gleison Bremer and Leandro Paredes.
