Record-breaking trainer Mark Johnston set to relinquish licence next week
Mark Johnston is stepping down from his training partnership with his son Charlie. Mark and Charlie have trained 176 winners in Britain. They have three horses with entries next week transferred into Charlie's name. Charlie will be assistant trainer at Kingsley House Stables in Middleham. He will start training at Newcastle on Tuesday. He has a limited company registered in 1988. The company trades as a private limited firm. It's only the licence that's changing. In August 2018, Mark became the winningmost trainer in British racing with 4,194th race. His son, Charlie, joined him on a joint training licence this year.
Mark Johnston started training in 1987. He became the first trainer to saddle 200 Flat winners in Britain during a calendar year in 2009. His personal best tally of 249 winners is more than any other trainer has achieved during one year.
