Record sports betting expected for Super Bowl

A record-breaking 68 million people are expected to place bets on Sunday's Super Bowl.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Sports fans lined up to get their hands on one of the sports book machines inside Mohegan Pennsylvania, in Wilkes-Barre Township to place bets on Super Bowl LVIII.

Finding an empty machine was hard to come by as the Super Bowl match-up between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers gets closer to kick-off.

"Obviously, it's the biggest game we have here. March Madness is right there with it, but this is definitely the biggest game of the year for us," said Mark Angelo, Director of Slots at Mohegan Pennsylvania.

The American Gaming Association estimates 23.1 billion will be wagered on the Super Bowl this year, that's 16 billion more than last year. The Keystone State is projected to make up 85 million of that total.

Mark Angelo is the Director of Slots at Mohegan Pennsylvania. He says each state is a little different in what you can bet on. Their Unibet Sports Book offers more than 900 different prop bets.

"Whether you're looking to come have some fun, put some wagers in to get some skin in the game. We have prop bets, parlays, and in-game wagering," said Angelo.

Sports betters at Mohegan Pennsylvania tell Newswatch 16 they're hopeful their picks will cash in big.

"Pat Mahomes under passing yards 245 and Brock Purdy under 225 and the over on the game. 'Who do you think is going to win?' Kansas City," said Dennis Piela, Connecticut.

"People are betting emotionally for Taylor Swift, so that is always a mistake when you bet emotionally, so I am going to bet against that and go with the Niners," said Gary Griffin, Wilkes-Barre.

Super Bowl LVIII kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Sunday night. Casino officials remind sports lovers to have fun but to bet responsibly.
