Red Sox Rejected by Another Chaim Bloom Replacement Candidate

It's been over a month since the Red Sox fired Chaim Bloom, removing him from his role as Chief Baseball Officer. Boston has been hunting for a new person (or persons) to head up its baseball operations department, but so far that search has been fruitless.

It doesn't help that ownership's top choices for the job keep turning them down. Several candidates have already declined offers to interview for the opening, including a high-ranking MLB official.

According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, senior vice president of MLB's on-field operations Michael Hill is not interested in a GM role at this time for any team, including the Red Sox.

That may be for the best, however, as Hill didn't have a ton of success running the Miami Marlins. He served as the Marlins' general manager from 2007-2013 before being promoted to president of baseball operations, which was his role from 2014-2020. Miami didn't have a single winning season during the 2010s, however, and still hasn't won a playoff game since 2003.

Still, Hill is just the latest GM candidate to turn Boston down. Mike Hazen, Chris Antonetti and others have already passed on the role as well, which is why the Red Sox are still looking for someone to replace Bloom. Apparently, taking over a team that's coming off back-to-back last-place seasons and working for fickle bosses isn't the most appealing job in the world.

On the bright side, Nightengale also reported that Boston appears to be zeroing in on Philadelphia Phillies GM Sam Fuld, who "may still be the favorite." Fuld's Phillies are currently in the NLCS, however, so he has his hands full. Fuld also works for Dave Dombrowski, who the Red Sox unceremoniously fired less than a year after winning the 2018 World Series.

Boston only has a few more weeks until the offseason starts in earnest, so it needs to find someone soon. If Fuld rejects the Red Sox as well, they may have to give up their search and promote someone internally.
