First Batch of Red Sox's GM Interviews Leaked

The biggest topic around the Boston Red Sox right now is their ongoing front-office search after parting ways with Chaim Bloom last month. The Red Sox have met some resistance while trying to find the right person to take over as potential candidates either decline the opportunity or drop out of the running.

That being said, we now know that Boston has talked to at least a few options regarding the job.

Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports that Minnesota Twins GM Thad Levine, Chicago Cubs assistant GM Craig Breslow and former Pittsburgh Pirates GM Neal Huntington are three external candidates who have already interviewed for the role. Meanwhile, internal interviewees include vice president of scouting/player development Paul Toboni and assistant GM Michael Groopman, according to Speier.

This initial group gives the Red Sox plenty of avenues to consider. The external candidates bring with them valuable experience from either running or helping run other organizations that could provide a fresh perspective to lead Boston into the next era. Internal choices, however, are viable as well if ownership wants a steady hand who's most familiar with the team's assets, strengths and weaknesses.

One outside option who had fans excited was current Toronto Blue Jays executive and former Houston Astros GM James Click. His championship history and experience building a contender to compete in today's MLB made him a top target.

Click elected to pull out of the race on Wednesday, however, taking a huge name out of the equation.

The Red Sox's struggles to line up interviews could drag this process out as they do further research on backup options, or it may speed things up if their list has already been exhausted. With the Miami Marlins in need of a new GM now too, there's certainly some pressure on Boston to strike before the Marlins' search intensifies.
