Red Wings vs. Rangers: Preview, odds, final score prediction

A tall task presents itself to the Red Wings on Wednesday, as Detroit enters New York to face the first-place Rangers, who with 31 points share the best record in the National Hockey League. NHL sportsbooks in Michigan are offering exclusive bonus bets and promos to new customers.

New sign-ups on DraftKings Sportsbook can receive $150 Instantly and a No Sweat Same Game Parlay each day of the hockey season when they make a $5 bet.

Over at Caesars Sportsbook, NHL bettors and Red Wings fans can take advantage of the amazing $1,000 First Bet on Caesars. That offer kicks in if your first wager fails to win, up to $1,000 of your first bet amount.

The Red Wings have firepower on their side, with their top lines rounding into shape as the season concludes its second full month. The Red Wings are especially thrilled with the play of J.T. Compher, who is manning center on one of Detroit’s top-scoring lines.

Compher was lured to the Motor City as a free agent last summer, and the former Colorado star is fitting in wearing the famed Winged Wheel.

On Wednesday, Detroit goalie Alex Lyon will be in net, fresh off a shutout win over the Devils last week. But, Lyon and the Red Wings’ defense will face a difficult task in containing the speed and shooting ability of the Rangers.

So far in the 2023-24 season, the Rangers have had the enviable benefit of not one, but two excellent goalies: Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick, who could be labeled “The Ancient Netminder.” At the ripe age of 37, Quick is showing inspired play in the net, having posted a 6-0 record, and a glimmering 93% save percentage. Among his seven starts and six wins are two shutouts.

The Wings are capable of spoiling Quick’s perfect mark on the season. The Wings rank third in the NHL in shooting percentage, second in high-percentage shots taken, and fifth in scoring. The team is riding the furious energetic skating and puck-handling skills of another new Red Wing, Alex DeBrincat, who has 20 points in 20 games, including a dozen goals.

Young Lucas Raymond, the popular Swede, is having the best start of his career, and proving why his scoring can carry the strength of one of Derek Lalonde’s lines. The Wings are throwing more frenetic energy and frenzied offensive pressure on opponents than they have in years.

That’s a big part of the reason fans are excited about the team again, and why the Red Wings seem destined to return to the playoffs after a dry spell.

Shesterkin is the main goalie for the Rangers, and will be in net on Wednesday. So it’s up to The Masked Russian to hold off the young Red Wings in the Big Apple. Detroit has won three straight, outscoring opponents by an impressive 13-3 in that stretch. One of those victories was a thumping of the Bruins in Boston.

If DeBrincat scores a goal, any goal at any time, your $100 wager can win you $210 plus your stake remains in your account with FanDuel Sportsbook. So far, DeBrincat has 12 goals in 20 games in his first season with the Red Wings. He will be on the ice a lot in MSG on Wednesday against the Rangers, who are favored on the moneyline.

Detroit will get plenty of shots away against the Rangers, but we think Igor Shesterkin will stave off enough of them to deliver a win for NY on their home ice. On Nov. 7, the Red Wings lost on that same ice to the Rangers, 5-3
