Reds: 3 players who could lose their roster spot with the addition of Chad Pinder

Stuart Fairchild was a nice pickup for the Cincinnati Reds last summer. After drafting the Wake Forest product in 2017, the Reds traded Fairchild to Arizona in 2020. Fairchild bounced around between a few different organizations last year before landing with the Reds.

Once he returned to the Queen City, Fairchild posted very good numbers in limited action. Fairchild slashed .279/.374/.523 in 38 games with Cincinnati last season. Fairchild also showed off some pop, racking up five round trippers in 99 at-bats.

Chad Pinder has experience playing in the corner outfield, and his right-handed bat could be a threat to Fairchild's roster spot. It's quite likely that the Reds plan to platoon Pinder alongside TJ Friedl or Jake Fraley in the outfield.

Fairchild has minor league options remaining and possesses considerably more speed than Pinder. But Pinder is a known commodity, and he could very well post 20-plus home runs while hitting in Great American Ball Park.

It's not a lock that Pinder will secure a spot on the Cincinnati Reds Opening Day roster, but one would think the odds are in his favor. If Pinder does indeed make the cut, someone who's currently on the 40-man roster will not be on the field on March 30th versus the Pitsburgh Pirates.
