Revisiting the Celtics' odds to win end-of-season awards

Will the Boston Celtics bring home any hardware at the end of the 2022-23 season?

With sports betting apps set to go live in Massachusetts on Friday, there should be countless wagers placed on the C's to earn an award or two. Boston is favored to win the NBA title, veteran point guard Malcolm Brogdon is a frontrunner for the Sixth Man of the Year honor, and first-year head coach Joe Mazzulla is in the running for Coach of the Year.

So what are the best bets with 15 games left on the schedule? Tom Giles joined Chris Forsberg on a brand new episode of the Celtics Talk Podcast to discuss.

Giles believes even with New York Knicks guard Immanuel Quickley tearing it up as of late, Brogdon is a solid Sixth Man of the Year bet at +120 odds.

"I think there's some value there with Malcolm Brogdon," Giles said. "I think Immanuel Quickley -- he had a great game against the Celtics but he's also sometimes in the starting lineup. So I think if you get in the mind of an NBA voter, they're going to be saying, who's the true six man that leads this field? And that's Malcolm Brogdon. He hasn't started a single game and he's not going to. ... So I still think that's a great place to go because it's kind of those two guys and that's it."

As for the C's championship odds, they're a little longer after their recent three-game losing streak. Giles says not to expect that trend to continue for the remainder of the season.

"The Celtics' title odds, for the first time in a long time, actually lengthened just a bit," Giles said. "They were around +270 and after this three-game skid you've seen it come back a little bit to +330. Here's the thing, so many people have already bet on the Celtics to win the NBA championship. They do not need to entice bettors by moving that number out again to +400 or +500, so that's not gonna happen unless they just go on a crazy skid."

Giles and Forsberg name the Milwaukee Bucks (+400) and Golden State Warriors (+1100) as teams with good value for NBA title odds. For more betting talk, listen to the full episode of the podcast.
