Rich stayers bonus added to Queensland winter for Andrew Ramsden Stakes placegetters

Another rich bonus will be added to the staying appeal of the Queensland winter carnival in an attempt to attract more depth to the Sunshine State to follow in the footsteps of Zaaki, Incentivise, Vow And Declare and Duais.

Looking to bolster the staying ranks during the carnival, it can revealed a $125,000 bonus will be given to any horse that can win or place in the Andrew Ramsden Stakes at Flemington on May 13, and then head to Queensland to win the Brisbane Cup on Stradbroke Handicap day.

Of the $125,000 bonus, the trainer of the winning horse would be eligible for $25,000.

"In recent years, we've seen the likes of Vow And Declare, Incentivise, Duais and Zaaki all leave their mark on Queensland, which speaks to our impact in showcasing the sport's future champions," acting Racing Queensland chief executive Adam Wallish said.

"With eight million-dollar races and record-breaking prizemoney, the addition of three significant bonuses across our middle-distance and staying programs should ensure we see some of our best and brightest gallopers campaigning here in Queensland throughout the carnival."

It comes on the back of the $200,000 ‘Zaaki bonus' that was added to the program last year for any horse that win either the Tails Stakes (April 22) or Hollindale Stakes (May 6), before going on to win the Doomben Cup or Q22.

Despite being an odds-on favourite to achieve the feat last year, Zaaki missed out after getting beaten by Huetor in the Doomben Cup.

While Zaaki is expected to again come north for the winter after resuming in the All Aged Stakes in Sydney on Saturday, The Everest-winning sprinter Giga Kick is all but certain to race in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m) on May 13.

"The prizemoney increases and bonuses will see the biggest names of the turf on show this May and June," Brisbane Racing Club chief executive Tony Partridge said.
