Roma vs Feyenoord

, KO:20:00 Apr 20, 2023,Stadio Olimpico1x2

Roma will attempt to overturn a one-goal deficit when they welcome Feyenoord to the Stadio Olimpico for the second leg of their Europa Conference League quarter-final tie. The Serie A side have done some of their best work at home lately and should have the upper hand here.

Roma will be disappointed to have come away from Netherlands empty-handed after falling to a 1-0 defeat in the first leg. They looked the better side throughout the encounter but were let down by wasteful finishing with captain Lorenzo Pellegrini even missing a penalty.

Jose Mourinho’s men are keen to set things right in the second leg and will head into Thursday’s clash with confidence after bouncing back with a 3-0 victory over Udinese last weekend. Pellegrini made up for his missed penalty with another on Sunday while Edoardo Bove and Tammy Abraham were also on target.

Another reason for confidence is Roma’s recent record at the Stadio Olimpico where they have won seven of their last eight matches across all competitions. That run has been driven by a solid defence that has kept clean sheets in all seven wins.

Feyenoord have a slim advantage heading into Thursday’s clash but were lucky to have claimed that 1-0 win in the first leg. They rode their luck throughout the contest but somehow managed to hold on to Mats Wieffer’s second half effort.

The Dutch side may have been lucky in the first leg but the result is in keeping with their overall form in recent weeks. Arne Slot’s men have lost just once in their last 15 matches across all competitions and travel to the Stadio Olimpico with a 3-0 victory at Cambuur in an Eredivisie fixture on Sunday.

A slight problem for Feyenoord is a dodgy away record in the Europa League having failed to win on their travels in the last 10 matches, a run stretching back to 2019. They have already been beaten by a Serie A side this season, losing 4-2 at Lazio during the group stage.

How the bookies view it

The bookies have installed Roma as favourites with a home win priced at 10/11 by bet365. A victory for Feyenoord is valued at 17/5 by BetVictor while a draw is set at 13/5 by 10bet.

Head to head

Roma had claimed two wins and a draw prior to last week’s first leg defeat to Feyenoord. One of the wins for the Serie A side was a 1-0 victory in last season’s Conference League finals.

Players to watch

Roma’s recent home form has been driven by a solid defence that has kept seven clean sheets in the last eight matches. The trio of Roger Ibanez, Gianluca Mancini and Chris Smalling should continue at the back and can lead the Serie A side to another clean sheet at 11/8 with BoyleSports.

At the other end of the pitch, with top scorer Paulo Dybala an injury doubt, Tammy Abraham could be the one to watch for Roma. The striker was on target on Sunday and is priced at 39/20 by Unibet to find the net on Thursday.

Anything else catch the eye?

There have been BTTS NO in the last two meetings between Roma and Feyenoord and a repeat is priced at 17/20 by Unibet. The Italians have earned a win to nil in seven of their last eight home matches and a similar outcome is valued at 2/1 by bet365.

Roma have claimed a number of one-sided victories in their recent outings at the Stadio Olimpico and can be backed in the -1 handicap market at 13/5 with Paddy Power.
