Rugby League World Cup news as England women win, gates fall below 2013, PNG send warning

Rugby League World Cup is taking place this weekend. England women won the tournament. Gate prices have fallen below 2013. PNG sent a warning to other countries.

Papua New Guinea beat Wales 36-0 in Doncaster to set up a quarter-final tie with England. PNG coach Stanley Tepend believes his team can beat England, but they have to prepare well. The Kumuls will play in Wigan next week. England will have their home support. The team will worry about themselves. They respect England but want to come good next time.

Dom Young has been a revelation at the Rugby League World Cup. His brother Alex is among his biggest supporters. Alex and Dom are close brothers. Dom and Alex used to play rugby league together. Alex hopes Dom will play for England in the knockout stages. He came to watch Dom play in Jamaica at World cup. The brothers have no other siblings. England play Papua New Guinea in Wigan on Saturday. They are playing in a Rugby league World Championship. It is the first time the tournament has taken place in this way.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, will attend England's Rugby League World Cup doubleheader this Saturday. The country's men's and women's sides will both feature at the DW Stadium, Wigan. Shaun Wane's side take on Papua New Guinea in the quarter-finals. Women's team will take against Canada in their second group game. Catherine was named the Rugby Football League's new patron last February.

Featherstone Rovers are interested in signing PNG halfback Kyle Laybutt. Lay buttbutt has impressed for PNG during the Rugby League World Cup. He will play against England in the quarter-final on Saturday. Featherstone will be coached by Sean Long next season.  Laybutt is considering a number of options, including a move to the UK.

James Graham has spoken about the 2008 World Cup squad he was a part of. He believes the club rivalry between St Helens and Leeds Rhinos contributed to their downfall. Graham also believes that the team underperformed.   The team won the competition, but lost to Australia and New Zealand. They also lost in the semi-final to Papua New Guinea. The players still tried their best. However, they didn't have the togetherness needed to perform.

Almost 250,000 fans have attended matches at the Rugby League World Cup. The figure is lower than the equivalent point in proceedings in 2013. Organisers have set the target of making this the best-attended World cup in history.

Adrian Morley is impressed with Victor Radley's performance at the Rugby League World Cup. England are playing Papua New Guinea in the quarter-finals on Saturday. Morly played for Leeds, Warrington and Sydney Roosters. He is one of four new inductees into the RFL's Hall of Fame.

England are now third favourite to win the Rugby League World Cup. They beat Samoa in the opening match of the tournament. Australia and New Zealand are the favourites. England's opponents on Saturday are Papua New Guinea. They are 150/1 to go all the way.

England women's team won their opening match of the Rugby League World Cup against Brazil 72-4 at Headingley. Amy Hardcastle and Courtney Winfield-Hill both scored hat-tricks. Tara-Jane Stanley scored two tries and kicked eight conversions. Francesca Goldthorp, Caitlin Beevers, Leah Burke, Tara Jones, Olivia Wood and Grace Field also crossed for England.
