Rugby World Cup Odds: Favourites to win the 2023 Rugby World Cup Final revealed

After breaking English hearts on Saturday night in Paris, the holders South Africa are 11/10 underdogs to retain the Rugby World Cup title against New Zealand

New Zealand’s Jordie Barrett, Sam Whitelock, Will Jordan, Beauden Barrett, Ethan de Groot, Brodie Retallick and Scott Barrett

The reigning champions South Africa and New Zealand will meet in the 2023 Rugby World Cup final on Saturday night in Paris, with both teams bidding to become the first four-time winners of the William Webb Ellis trophy.

The New Zealand ‘All Blacks’ added to their win in the inaugural Rugby World Cup in 1987 by going back-to-back in 2011 and 2015, while South Africa won the trophy on home soil in 1995 before beating England in the finals of both 2007 and most recently in 2019. England (2003) and Australia (1991 & 1999) are the only other winners in the tournament’s 36-year history.

Who are the favourites to win the 2023 Rugby World Cup Final?

In Saturday’s final at the Stade de France, bookmakers have given New Zealand a 55.6% chance at best odds of 4/5 on William Hill to win the trophy. South Africa are 11/10 on Betfred (47.6% chance), but can be found for as short as Evens on several UK bookmakers.

Both sides have slightly longer prices in the individual match market, accounting for the possibility of a draw (22/1 on Unibet). The All Blacks are 22/25 on BetUK to win the match in normal time, while the Springboks can be backed at 13/10 on QuinnBet.

New Zealand vs South Africa Rugby Odds

New Zealand vs South Africa Head to Head

New Zealand have won 62 of their 105 matches against South Africa, who have prevailed on 39 occasions. Four matches between the two sides have ended in a draw.

Much of the talk going into the final has been about the most recent meeting at Twickenham in August, a 35-7 win for South Africa featuring a red card for New Zealand’s Scott Barrett.

New Zealand won 35-20 (having led 17-0) in their 2023 Rugby Championship meeting in Auckland, while the two teams traded one win apiece in the 2022 edition of that tournament, with both matches held in South Africa.

In fact, South Africa have only won the Rugby Championship once (2019) since it re-branded from the Tri-Nations in 2012. New Zealand have won it in seven of the last eight years.
