Newmarket betting tips

1.25: Chief Little Rock 8/1 each-way (1pt)

The Autumn Stakes is for two-year-olds over 1m over the famous Rowley mile.

Chief Little Rock has arguably the better form placing in Group 2 company last time out at the Curragh behind Deepone, and looks set to build on that on his fourth start over 1m.

He handles both good and soft ground and the combination of Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore has seen huge success this year in big races.

Ancient Wisdom placed behind Rosallion last time out but was a few lengths off the winner, so will need a big improvement to beat this field of seven on soft.

2.00: City Of Troy 4/7 (2pts)

City Of Troy may well be a heavy odds-on price but his form speaks for itself and has been waited with patiently from the Aidan O'Brien yard making it even more tempting to go for him in this.

He emerged on debut as the clear winner at the Curragh in July and just two weeks after that put in a huge Group 2 performance to win by over six lengths ahead of Haatem, who was rated 102 at the time.

It's still unclear how good this horse is but with the market already giving a big indication on each of his outings it's clear what's thought of this horse, a potential star.

2.40: Yorkindness 40/1, Geremia 50/1, Jesse Evans 14/1

The Cesarewitch Handicap is a Class 2 contest over the stamina testing 2m2f for staying flat racers.

Yorkindness is a massive price despite a fairly good performance in fourth at Chester behind Tashkan, but she'll be getting firmer ground which she seems to prefer which can make a huge difference over this trip.

At similar weights Geremia who on just reading the form may be overlooked as he has been dropped in trip in the last two runs, despite seemingly being better suited to around 2m.

He finished just over four lengths off of Sweet William in July and has strong form over this trip of late.

Jesse Evans is an interesting runner at seven-years-old, a gelding out of the Noel Meade yard, who is remarkably consistent on the flat.

He recorded a great fourth place finish in the Irish Cesarewitch in September from 30 runners despite a huge rise in the weights from a previous win at Killarney.

Hasn't raced on the flat in Britain before but that shouldn't be an issue for this nice each-way horse who is given a huge chance carrying 6lb below his actual rating.

3.15: Arabian Crown 7/4 (2pts - NB)

Arabian Crown was close to evens favourite earlier on in the week but has since drifted slightly as this field size was cut down to just five confirmed runners.

It's still worth siding with Arabian Crown who looks like a great value bet at 7/4 in such a small field, with Buick and Appleby in great form.

The colt by Dubawi looks set to relish stepping up in trip and the main danger according to the market at 11/2 is Dambuster, who has one run and one win to his name, but still has a big question mark on how good he is for Andrew Balding's yard.

3.50: Highland Avenue 11/2 each-way

The Group 3 Darley Stakes contested over 1m1f is also a great renewal this year with ten runners, but a very open one in the market with prices starting at around 4/1.

Knight is the favourite at time of writing as he's among the top-rated with some decent form this season which has been seen since being gelded back in June.

The three-year-old is lightly raced though and he will need to put up a big run to beat some of these experienced runners. He did make an encouraging run in defeat last time making up a lot of ground after blowing the start somewhat, only finishing a head behind Chindit, albeit while being given 9lb in weight to the winner.

Highland Avenue though, certainly ticks some boxes in horse you'd be wanting to back here, with good form over extended 1m trips, and consistent this year too.

He's certainly due a win having put in decent performances in places since his last, which came over this course and distance - and since being gelded (in September 2021) has only ran four times in Britain.

He made a long awaited return after 428 days off and despite being an 11/1 shot still finished well in third behind Adayar over 1m2f on soft ground here in May.

Last time out at Newbury probably didn't suit his running style as he was held up at the back rather than running on at the head of the field, which will likely be the tactics deployed this time out.

York betting tips

3.35: Believe In Stars 3/1 (1pt)

Would have had a couple of excuses had he not won last time out at Goodwood in September, but instead managed to hold on to beat King Lear by a head.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained horse had a few potential negatives to the big favourite; first run since being gelded, carrying top weight, and first run for 350 days.

All that really says is that could be the start of a great run here having developed into a four-year-old nicely.

He can still learn to settle a bit more considering he dwelt at the start but that could be down nearly a year away from his previous race, which points even more to another big run here on just his second run since being gelded and potentially well handicapped still.

Chepstow betting tips

2.30: Courtland each-way 9/1 (1pt)

Has progressed over fences incredibly well this season jumping up from a mark of 109 in May to 144 today.

It looked like his mark may have caught up to him at Market Rasen's Grade 3 when he was just beaten by Born Famous, but he was carrying nearly a stone more than that rival, and as a result was upped another 6lb.

He then tried 2m7f for the first time off this top mark and it looked to suit even more when beating Go On Che comfortably by 12 lengths.

He now faces the top competition he's faced but still could be progressing as he's unexposed over this trip that looks ideal for him under Sean Bowen for trainer Peter Bowen.

3.10: Knappers Hill 8/11 (2pts - NAP)

This race will simply come down to how well either Knappers Hill or Collectors Item have progressed over the summer to take on their chase debut.

Knappers Hill dwarves the rest in terms of ratings having been a Grade 2 hurdle winner at Sandown in April and in November at Wincanton.

He looks the type of horse to really suit this progression too and it wouldn't be a surprise to see this best price of 8/11 get hammered in to 1/2.

Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden pair up again and they are a lethal combination and can put in another great training performance and ride to see this out, like they did on Captain Teague on Friday's meeting.

P+L: +1.28pts from 09/10/23
