Glorious Goodwood Wednesday Tips 2023: Raceolly's Best Bets For Day 2 Of Glorious Goodwood

Goodwood Wednesday Tips from our resident tipster Raceolly, who has some eye-catching big-priced selections for day two of the meeting. Find out all his best bets for Wednesday here, as he looks to bag some notable profit on a superb day's racing on the Sussex Downs...

I often get asked for my best bet of the day and for day 2 at Goodwood it would be STRUTH. He ran a huge race last time taking on the older horses when travelling like the best horse, but getting pegged at the end by two very well handicapped rivals. His first run of the season at Chester when beating his better fancied stablemate set his stall out and showed that the further trip was perfect and the softer conditions even better, although he’s ran well on all grounds. He stays further and has a willing attitude to keep battling away, a typical Johnston horse as they say, but that will be ideal around here. Has been improving every start and has a lot in his favour for a yard who’s won this five times in the last 15 years.

Twice Listed placed HACKMAN ran as if something was amiss at Royal Ascot but was back to form last time in the Dragon Stakes. The ground would have been fast enough in the Windsor Castle and the soft ground maiden winner could be much better suited in these conditions. Ran well behind reopposing and short priced favourite Kylian last time although well beaten, the addition of a tongue tie here is interesting as it’s possible a issue with breathing came to light after that and the gear Has been reached for to help bridge that gap here. 24 of Hugo Palmer's two-year-olds have hit the frame this season from 46 runners (52%).

IN THESE SHOES is of huge interest here finally stepped up in trip. Her dam won up to a mile-and-a-half and she already has form on softer ground although was bogged down last time in heavy ground. Has excuses for the few poor runs this season, ground latest, went too hard to soon at Newmarket and very poor draw at Chester, with those forgiven and no such excuses here she’s a huge price. Since Charlie Johnston has taken over the licence he has a 33% win rate at Goodwood after six winners from 18 runners. Plenty in her favour here including her form in fillies only races having finished 2nd on both races to date and plenty of improvement possible now up in trip.

SECRET STRENGTH is a tricky one as a lot depends on the start. He completely blew it last time having lost many lengths and given no chance after. Placed in marks in the 80s last year and won off this mark of 75 on the all weather back in February, latest win was off 2lb lower at Newbury where everything fell right for him, but he was running well before that threatening to land one and this race will be run to suit. Likely to miss the start but hopefully not so severe this time and the very fast pace will help us get back in to it late on. David Egan takes just his second ride for the yard and this will be the first professional to ride Secret Strength for five starts.
