Scotland vs Italy Predictions

Both sides have impressed this season but with little other than pride on the line this weekend, it is difficult to predict what will happen. But, at home, Scotland are favourites and I can see them covering the -14 handicap.

Head to Head

Italy have managed just seven wins in their 34 matches against Scotland, the last of which came in 2015. Scotland have won their last 11 games against the Italians, including a  33-22 win in Rome last year.

Scotland Form

Scotland’s hopes of a Six Nations title went up in smoke last weekend when they lost to Ireland. They have however still played well this season and will want to finish on a high.

The Scots began their 2023 Six Nations campaign with a fantastic 29-23 win away against England. It was followed by a convincing 35-7 home success against Wales.

Tougher tests were to come though. Scotland then lost 32-21 in Paris against France, but the performance was very good, and had they taken their chances, could have won the match.

Last week, at home against Ireland, Scotland went down 22-7. At half-time they were 10-7 down and should really have led, again missing a number of point scoring opportunities. Scotland faded in the second half under relentless pressure from the world No.1 ranked side.

Scotland Injuries & Team News

Scotland will be without two star players in Stuart Hogg and Finn Russell. They are both out injured.

Italy Form

Italy have lost all four matches in the 2023 Six Nations, but their performances have been excellent. For once Italy have been seen as challengers to the other sides.

They lost 29-24 at home against France in round one before going down 31-14 against England at Twickenham. Both performances were full of quality from the Italians.

Another gutsy display at home against Ireland saw them lost 34-20. Last week many had Italy to win against the struggling Welsh, myself included. Unfortunately they just couldn’t get it together for 80 minutes which saw Wales win 29-17.

Italy Injuries & Team News

Italy have made four changes to their side. Simone Gesi will make his debut with Alessandro Fusco coming in at scrumhalf.
