This promises to be a completely different match-up though. I am backing Ireland win by more than 22 points and claim a crucial bonus point.

  • Italy have lost their last 2 matches.
  • Ireland have covered the -22 handicap in their last 3 matches against Italy.
  • Ireland have won their last 8 matches.
  • Ireland have won their last 12 matches against Italy.

Head to Head

Ireland have won 30 of their 34 matches against Italy. The last win for Italy came in 2013 in what was a major upset at the time. The three previous Italy victories came in 1995 and twice in 1997.

Last season Ireland beat Italy 57-6 in Dublin.

Italy Form

Italy are currently fifth in the Six Nations with a single point after two matches. Both of their performances have been impressive, especially the losing bonus point to France on the opening weekend.

The 29-24 defeat to France was followed by a 31-14 loss to England at Twickenham. While they have yet to win, Italy will be happy with their performances to date.

Italy have improved immensely recently. Beating Wales at the end of the 2022 Six Nations was the catalyst for their improve form. They went on to beat Samoa and Australia in November, however, a clash against the world No.1 side may prove a step too far.

Italy Injuries & Team News

Italy will announce their side later this week. At this point it looks like they have a full squad from which to pick.

Ireland Form

Ireland are the form team of world rugby at the moment. They have pretty much beaten everyone who has come over the last 12 months and are currently ranked No.1 in the world.

Currently Ireland are top of the Six Nations with 10 points, ahead of Scotland on points difference. After convincingly seeing off Wales 34-10 in their opener in Cardiff, Ireland took a major step towards the title by beating France 32-19 at home last time out.

While Italy’s form has improved significantly, Ireland will still be targeting a bonus point in Rome. They will want to go into their match against Scotland next weekend at the top of the pile.

Ireland Injuries & Team News

Ireland have not announced any injuries to their squad. The team announcement will take place later this week.
