Scotland vs Italy Six Nations prediction, odds and betting tips

Scotland will want to end what has been a largely positive Six Nations with a victory when they host Italy this Saturday afternoon.

The Scottish have suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of France and Ireland, but this is not a fair reflection of their tournament. The team has had one of its best performances in recent years, and Gregor Townsend hopes his side ends on a high in Edinburgh.

Scotland vs Italy prediction

Italy will come into this weekend’s game facing the very real possibility that they will take home an eighth consecutive Wooden Spoon.

The Italians came out on the losing end of the battle between themselves and fellow bottom-dwellers Wales last weekend, and they will not be optimistic about causing an upset on Saturday. Despite strong showings against France and England in their early games, the Italians have only registered a single bonus point this Championship.

Gregor Townsend has made four changes to his side ahead of the game. Blair Kinghorn, Sam Skinner, and Ollie Smith replace the injured Stuart Hogg, Finn Russell and Richie Gray, while Hamish Watson returns to the side ahead of Matt Fagerson.

Kieran Crowley has also made a quartet of changes, with Simone Gesi making his Italy debut, Alessandro Fusco making his first start this Championship, and Edoardo Iachizzi and Marco Riccioni both returning.

While bottom of the table, the Italians have still shown flashes of brilliance during the Championship. The Scots will remember the Italian’s upset over Wales on the closing day of last year’s Championship and be keen to avoid a banana skin.

The bookies are backing the Scottish to finish with a win at odds of 1/9, while Italy are out at 6/1 to pull off the upset and finish the Championship with a solitary win.

Can Italy pull off an upset in Edinburgh? We don’t think so. We do think these three bets offer some good value, though.

Scotland -17.5 at 10/11

As is often the case with Italian games, finding value in the winner’s markets can be hard. At 10/11, a Scotland -17.5 handicap is worth considering. The Scottish have been dominant at stages throughout the tournament and will want to bounce back after consecutive defeats.

Those defeats don’t tell the full story, though, as they both came in valiant efforts against France and Ireland, two of the best teams in the world right now. Scotland will want to finish things on a high, and a game against the Italians gives them the perfect opportunity to do that.

Huw Jones anytime try scorer at 20/23

One of the most dependable bets of this year’s Six Nations Championship has been Huw Jones in the anytime try scorer market. Jones has managed to land a try in three of his four outings so far. He also grabbed a double away at France in Paris, with his four tries putting him on top of the try scorer charts.

He is valued at 20/23 with Bet365 to grab another try against Italy. While the odds aren’t anything special, this has been a dependable bet throughout the Championship. If you fancy being more adventurous, he is available at 9/1 in both the first and last try scorer markets.

Total points 40-49 at 3/1

Given Italy’s status as perennial Wooden Spoon winners, finding value in their games can be tricky. One thing you can be sure of with the Italians is a high-scoring encounter.

Their lowest-scoring game this season has been 45 when they lost 31-14 to England. Scotland have also been an entertaining side, and they have only failed to be in a game with less than 40 points once this season. As such, a 40-49 points total at 3/1 with bet365 offers some good value.
