Seattle Kraken at San Jose Sharks odds, picks and predictions

The Seattle Kraken (21-18-10) travel to meet the San Jose Sharks (13-32-4) on Tuesday. Puck drop at SAP Center is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Kraken vs. Sharks odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Kraken doubled up the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday, winning 4-2 as heavy favorites (-245), while the total (6) pushed at most shops. Even with the win, Seattle is still just 2-4-1 across the past 7 games. The Over is 2-0-1 in the previous 3 outings.

Seattle is a solid 5-1 on the puck line in the past 6 games when favored dating back to Jan. 4.

The Sharks were sliced up 5-2 by the Buffalo Sabres last time out on Saturday, snapping a season-high 3-game win streak, including a pair of victories against winning teams.

San Jose is 4-1 in the past 5 games as an underdog on the puck line, with 3 outright wins, while going 6-2 in the past 8 as a ‘dog on the puck line.

Kraken at Sharks projected goalies

Philipp Grubauer (5-9-1, 3.25 GAA, .884 SV%) vs. Mac Blackwood (7-17-3, 3.63 GAA, .896 SV%)

Grubauer allowed 2 goals on 23 shots in a 4-3 OT loss against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Dec. 9 in his most recent outing. He left that game with a lower-body injury, and was placed on long-term injured reserve. He has since been activated from LTIR, and with Joey Daccord on a 3-game skid, Grubauer might get a chance to get back in before the All-Star break.

Blackwood is confirmed to start. He has picked up wins in his past 2 outings, conceding just 5 goals on 65 shots against the Anaheim Ducks and New York Rangers. In 7 starts and 8 appearances in January, Blackwood is a respectable 3-3-1 with a 2.86 GAA and .913 SV%.

Kraken at Sharks picks and predictions

Prediction

Sharks 4, Kraken 3

The SHARKS (+185) are worth a roll of the dice as heavy underdogs on home ice.

San Jose has been a tough out at SAP Center recently, picking up wins over winning teams like the Kings and Rangers. Even in games the Sharks have lost, they have been surprisingly pesky, looking NHL caliber again after a brutal start to the 2023-24 campaign.

The Kraken (-225) is prime for the picking, and under no circumstances should you back Seattle as such a heavy favorite, especially on the road.

The SHARKS +1.5 (-135) aren’t priced out of line if you would like some insurance on the home side, and you just can’t bring yourself to pick San Jose straight up.

The Kraken -1.5 (+110) have won 4 of the past 5 meetings, but San Jose has covered the puck line in each of the past 3 meetings at home, including twice as an underdog.

The OVER 6 (+100) is worth a look in this Pacific Ocean battle of sea creatures.

The Kraken have seen the total go Over at a 2-0-1 pace in the past 3 games, with the offense averaging 4.3 goals per game. Even if Seattle does, in fact, go down, I don’t think San Jose’s defense keeps them off the board.

And the Sharks are averaging a healthy 3.5 GPG in the past 4 outings, while allowing 2 or more goals in 19 consecutive outings. The Over has cashed in 3 of the past 4 for San Jose.
