Sidney Outlaw vs. Islam Mamedov Betting Analysis and Prediction

Bellator is back on the MMA schedule this weekend with a card full of great fights for your viewing pleasure. The main card opening fight is between lightweights Sidney Outlaw and Islam Mamedov.

Bellator picks to make for this fight.

Sidney Outlaw vs Islam Mamedov

Location of the fight: Sanford Pentagon. Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Date and Time: Friday, August 11. 10:00 PM ET main card start

How to Watch: Showtime

Outlaw is back after a harsh 27-second TKO loss to Tofiq Musayev in July of 2022.

Mamedov last fought in October when he beat Nick Browne in a unanimous decision.

Outlaw is a Philadelphia-native fighting out of the American Top Team now in South Florida. He is a world champion in three different organizations and is a black belt in BJJ under Renzo Gracie.

With slick submission skills from his back and experience against many tough fighters, Outlaw might have the skill set to give Mamedov some trouble. He also has one KO and eight submissions in his professional fighting career.

Mamedov is a 22-2-1 fighter from Dagestan with experience as a Combat Sambo world champion. He trains with Khabib’s fight team with a room full of killers like Islam Makhachev and Umar Nurmagomedov.

His only loss in Bellator was a split decision to the great Benson Henderson back in January of 2022. Mamedov has four KOs and ten submission victories in his professional career.

No injuries have been reported to Bellator MMA.

After breaking down the Bellator 298 betting analysis for this lightweight bout, let’s look at the available Bellator odds.

Since it’s only the start of fight week, sportsbooks only have money lines available right now, so there are not any prop bets to analyze right now. Outlaw is coming in as the +210 underdog, and Mamedov is the -285 betting favorite.

If you aren’t new to watching MMA, you already know how dominant the Dagestani style of Combat Sambo is in the transition to MMA for these Eastern European fighters. It’s going to be hard to pick against anybody coming out of Team Khabib as well.

On the technical side of this matchup, the wrestling and power of Mamedov stick out as the biggest advantages out of either man. Outlaw tends to let his opponent dictate a lot of real estate inside the cage and hasn’t shown too much defensive wrestling.

  • The Bellator 298 betting analysis and betting preview for this matchup all point to one thing: Mamedov is going to get his hand raised on Friday night in South Dakota.

Mamedov is going to be too big and too much on the ground for Outlaw. If Mamedov comes in focused on his game plan, there really isn’t much Outlaw will be able to do with the skill set he has. He is slick on his back and can pull off some unorthodox stuff in a fight, but Mamedov’s top pressure and wrestling ability, in general, is enough to win this fight without even throwing a punch on the feet.

Keep an eye out on sportsbooks throughout this week because prop bets will start being released for these fights. Since Mamedov’s moneyline is -285 with not much value, look for Mamedov to win by TKO. Him being on top and winning with ground-and-pound strikes landing heavy on Outlaw seems like the most likely outcome.
