Bellator 298 James Gallagher vs James Gonzalez Betting Analysis

If you are looking to make some of the best Bellator picks this weekend, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s put the spotlight on this interesting featherweight bout with James Gallagher making his long-awaited return to competing, but this time at a higher weight class. Gallagher will be meeting James Gonzalez on short notice in South Dakota.

This should be one of the better fights on the MMA schedule.

James Gallagher vs James Gonzalez

Location of the fight: Sanford Pentagon, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Date and Time: Friday, August 11. 10:00 PM ET main card start

How to Watch: Showtime

Gallagher last fought in the fall of 2021 when he lost to Patchy Mix via third-round submission in the biggest fight of his career so far.

Gonzalez is coming off a decision loss to the tough Aaron Pico in April of this year.

After a loud start to his Bellator MMA career, Gallagher became one of the most talked about prospects in MMA being from Ireland and becoming a big personality in MMA media. With a professional record of 11-2 and nine submissions, he has shown his talent at a decently high level.

With almost two years away from competing, there are lots of questions surrounding Gallagher and why he was pulling out of so many fights–and now he’s making his debut at a bigger weight class.

At the age of 26, he’s still growing into his body and hasn’t even reached his athletic prime. Starting out at SBG Ireland with John Kavanaugh, Gallagher has now made the move across the pond to train at Kansas City MMA.

Gonzalez is an MMA veteran now at the age of 34, with a professional record of 10-6 with three KOs and two submissions. He fights out of the Longo and Weidman MMA camp, so you can assume he will show up with a great fight plan and in great shape.

Gonzalez is the same height as Gallagher (5’9”), but he will be the bigger man as he’s a natural featherweight with a lot of muscle mass.

No injuries have been reported to Bellator MMA.

Before getting to this Bellator 298 prediction, we have to preview what the betting lines are for this featherweight bout.

According to the Bellator odds, Gallagher is coming in as the slight -125 betting favorite over the -105 James Gonzalez. There are no prop bets available right now this early in fight week, but keep your eyes on sportsbooks for more lines to be released–specifically for Gallagher to win via submission and the over/under round total.

On the technical side of this matchup, Gallagher seems to be the more dynamic fighter. He is talented, confident, and has legit submission skills. Gonzalez is not as athletically gifted and doesn’t have the dynamic ability, but he is a tough matchup for Gallagher.

Gonzalez is going to put pressure on Gallagher from the start and really try to land big shots with his hands, and he should have the confidence to mix in some wrestling as he is the bigger man and a better wrestler.

This event in South Dakota this week will be an awesome chance to watch some of the talents Bellator will be showcasing in a true fighting city.

  • For this official Bellator 298 prediction, we have to go with James Gallagher to get the job done.

It’s hard to imagine he hasn’t improved with his time away, both mentally and physically. It’s very easy to see Gallagher being able to take his back and lock up a rear-naked choke.
