Sipi falls enriching the community
Beatrice Yeko 34, a single mother of four, is one of the beneficiaries of Sipi falls in Kapchorwa district. She lost her husband three years ago to an unidentified disease. Yekso received help from tourists who came to enjoy the sipi water falls and gave her money or clothes for herself and her family. Many youths are employed as tour guides and carry out odds jobs, from which they earn a living. Peter Chebet, 13, was abseiling. He calls out to Beatrice from behind. The boy is Peter. According to the Uganda Bureau of Standards, KapChorwha district has 113,500 people. Many of them are directly or indirectly benefiting from the region's biggest natural resource. According, Casa Uganda Safaris and Lodges, over 90 per cent of its employees are locals.
