'So out of touch it defies belief'

British Cycling has signed a long-term sponsorship deal with energy company Shell. Environmental groups and British Cycling's membership are angry about the deal. Many members have cancelled their membership or threatened to do so. British cycling federation was looking for a new major sponsor since HSBC ended its backing at the end of 2021. Shell has annual revenues in excess of $250bn and reported record profits this year. The deal will run to the year 2030. It will also support a programme to help disabled people access cycling and the elite-level sporting programmes through the next two Olympic cycles.
