Sports Digest: Mike Thibault, winningest coach in WNBA, promoted to GM

Mike Thibault is retiring as coach of the Washington Mystics. He is the winningest coach in WNBA history with 379-289. His son Eric will take over as head coach. Eric has been an assistant with the Mysticks for a decade.

Americans will bet $1.8 billion on the World Cup this year. About 20.5 million American adults plan to bet on it. Sadio Mane will miss his team's first games at the tournament because of a leg injury. Senegal will have to cope without him.  Abdoulaye Sow is a Senegal soccer federation board member.

Raul Jimenez is set to play his first game since August against Sweden. The match is Mexico's final warm-up for the Qatar World Cup. Jiminez has been sidelined with a groin injury since Wolves played Bournemouth on August 31.

Joel Glazer will make the final decision about Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Manchester United. Ronaldo said he felt betrayed by the club in an interview. He also said that he does not respect Manager Erik ten Hag.

Bernardus Golf will host the Solheim Cup in 2026. The course opened in 2018 and has already hosted the Dutch Open on the men's European tour in 2021 and 2022. Europe will defend the trophy against the United States at Finca Cortesin in Spain in September next year.

Rafael Nadal lost in straight sets to Felix Auger-Aliassime in ATP Finals in Turin. Casper Ruud beat Taylor Fritz in a later match. Nadel has lost four straight matches for only the second time in his career.

Ty Gibbs was promoted to NASCAR's top Cup series. His father, Coy Gibbs, died in his sleep hours after his son won the Xfinity Series championship on Nov. 5 at Phoenix Raceway. Coy was vice chairman of his father's NASCAR team at the time of death.

Sunisa Lee is the 2020 Olympic champion in the women's all-around gymnastics. Lee will return to training next spring after her sophomore season at Auburn. She has her sights set on Paris 2024 Olympics.
