Sun Chariot Stakes tips and predictions: Inspiral backed for win

Belfast Telegraph

The Sun Chariot Stakes is a Group 1 contest over the Rowley Mile at Newmarket that is open to fillies and mares aged three years and above.

A field of eight runners has been declared to run in Saturday’s latest renewal, including Inspiral, a filly who is a multiple winner at this level.

She will also be joined by Msqe De Sevigne, who makes the trip across from France for Andre Fabre, while Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien is represented by Meditate.

Frankie Dettori has won this race once in his career and that victory came in 1992 on board Red Slippers. Success on Inspiral this year could mark his 500th winner at Newmarket.

Inspiral can shine at HQ again

With seven wins from 11 starts in her career, Inspiral has consistently been one of the leading milers in Europe over the past couple of years, and claimed her fourth Group 1 success in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville last time out.

That victory in France proved that John and Thady Gosden’s filly was back to her best. She beat a field that included Big Rock, Triple Time and Good Guess, staying on strongly inside the final furlong to score by just over a length ahead of Big Rock, the Prix du Jockey Club runner-up.

Although she was unable to score in her opening two starts of the season, the daughter of Frankel had not fared badly. She finished second behind Triple Time in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot in June on her seasonal reappearance, going down by just a neck. The ground was then far too soft for her at Glorious Goodwood in the Sussex Stakes.

Newmarket has been a happy hunting ground for this filly. She was victorious twice here as a two-year-old, including in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile over this 1m distance. The ratings suggest she will add to her tally here, giving Frankie Dettori another big-race success in a remarkable farewell season.

French raider looks the real deal

Andre Fabre does not make the trip across to the UK very often, but when he does it’s often with a horse he has a lot of confidence in. He saddles Mqse De Sevigne in the Newmarket feature and the filly is bidding for her third straight Group 1 triumph of the season.

The four-year-old has taken a big step forward this season, prior to which her highlight was a Group 3 victory at Longchamp. She has clearly become more powerful as she has got older.

Fabre’s runner won the Group 1 Prix Rothschild at Deauville back in July, finishing ahead of stablemate Life In Motion and some smart three-year-olds. She then stepped up to 1m 2f to win the Prix Jean Romanet at the same course, beating Via Sistina and Above The Curve.

With stamina on her side, Fabre will be hoping there is a strong pace in this race. If that proves to be the case, she will be staying on strongly in the final couple of furlongs and may just outstay her rivals.
