Super Bowl odds: 49ers pulling away from the field

After a 5-0 dominant start to the season, the 49ers are now massive favorites to win the 2024 Super Bowl.

Heading into Week 6, San Francisco is +350 at BetMGM Sportsbook to take home the Lombardi Trophy in February, a clear cut above the Kansas City Chiefs, who are +550.

Coming into the season, the Chiefs and Bills were co-favorites to win the Super Bowl at +550.

Only a few teams have received similar love from sportsbooks like this.

The 2019 New England Patriots decided to take a leap of faith and trade for embattled superstar receiver Antonio Brown.

Their odds dropped from +600 down to +400 at the end of September.

The 49ers dropping even further from their lofty expectations wouldn’t be unprecedented either.

In 2016, New England was +350 to win the Super Bowl during Week 6 before dropping to a seemingly unbelievable +140 to win the Super Bowl around Week 10.

The Patriots did make good on their Super Bowl favorite status, though, defeating the Seattle Seahawks thanks to a late Malcolm Butler interception.

Just last season, the Bills were +325 favorites to win the Super Bowl heading into Week 6 after a strong start of their own; Buffalo would go on to lose in the Divisional Round to the Cincinnati Bengals.

San Francisco has been just as dominant as any team we have seen in the early going, outscoring its opponents by 99 points through five games and scoring at least 30 points in every contest.

The odds shift comes after the Niners’ most impressive win of the year on “Sunday Night Football” against the Cowboys.

The 49ers throttled Dallas 42-10 in what was dubbed as one of the biggest games of the NFL’s early slate.

Their performance thus far has two 49ers players — quarterback Brock Purdy and running back Christian McCaffrey — getting MVP buzz.

On the other side of the ball, pass rusher Nick Bosa and linebacker Fred Warner both rank in the top ten in Defensive Player of the Year odds.

While they’ve been impressive so far, it doesn’t mean they’re a shoo-in for a Super Bowl championship.

Betting on the NFL?

The 49ers will be tested once again this week when they travel to Cleveland to play the Browns.

The Browns have the No. 1 defense in the NFL per DVOA thus far, although there are questions as to whether quarterback Deshaun Watson will play as he’s dealing with a shoulder injury.

With Watson’s status up in the air, the 49ers are currently 6.5-point road favorites.

Another convincing win over a solid Browns team could push their Super Bowl odds even lower.
