Swinney's odds as Alabama's next head coach

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Alabama’s future remains unknown and the biggest story of the 2024 offseason remains ongoing.

Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne is searching for the former Crimson Tide head football coach Nick Saban’s replacement and while opinions and hot takes run rapid, the truth remains elusive at this time.

The betting odds are alive and well though.

The list of possible candidates hit the airwaves nearly immediately following Saban’s retirement announcement and included some of the biggest names in college football. Including Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, along with Washington’s Kalen DeBoer, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, Ole Miss’s Lane Kiffin and Oregon’s Dan Lanning.

Wednesday night reports and speculation were fairly united in the future head coach of Alabama being Oregon’s Dan Lanning but come sunrise, that idea was squashed as the Ducks turned it into a major recruiting tool. The team put out a video saying in part, “the grass is greenest in Oregon.” The video emphatically put an end to speculation he would leave and the hot takes took off once again.

Throughout the day Clemson fans saw analysts say there was no chance Swinney would end up in Alabama despite his impressive resume and ties to the program.

But by day’s end, the betting odds said something different. Still, hours later, those odds continue to constantly swing.

What that means is either people are just busy betting, or Vegas knows something.
