Texas listed as multi-touchdown favorite over Rice according to multiple sportsbooks

Las Vegas and international sportsbooks have updated their game spreads, points totals, and moneylines for the upcoming slate of college football in Week 1, including for the Texas Longhorns’ season-opening matchup versus the Rice Owls.

Texas is a five-touchdown favorite across multiple major sportsbooks, according to data compiled by VegasInsider.

Bet365, MGM, Caesars, PointsBet, and DraftKings all have the Horns as 35-point favorites with -110 odds.

FanDuel has Texas as a 35.5-point favorite with -105 odds.

BetRivers and UniBet favor the Longhorns by a similar 35.5-point margin but with -110 odds.

While the books are mostly in agreement about the five-touchdown spread, they differ when it comes to total points.

Bet365, Caesars, and DraftKings have the point total at 59.

FanDuel, BetRivers, and UniBet set their numbers at 59.5.

MGM and PointsBet represent the low totals with 58.5.

Texas is a massive favorite on the moneyline, with odds at -20,000 with Bet365, -100,000 on FanDuel, and -15,000 on Caesars. Several books do not have a moneyline wager on the Longhorns available.

A Rice moneyline bet at Bet365 or Caesars carries +2200 odds. The same wager with FanDuel carries +8000 odds. Some books similarly do not have moneyline wagers on Rice available.

Texas has won 15 consecutive games over the Owls dating back to 1995. Rice last defeated Texas in 1994 in Rice Stadium by a score of 19-17. That result was key in five teams winning a share of the 1994 Southwest Conference title. Rice, Texas, Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech all took home a co-championship with 4-3 SWC records.

Since then, Texas is 10-5 against the spread versus the Owls. Texas failed to cover the total in 1997, 1999, 2004, 2010, and 2015.

During the most recent matchup between the programs on September 18, 2021, Texas covered a 26-point spread with a 58-0 victory.

The Longhorns and Owls kickoff the 2023 campaign this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Austin. Fox will televise the game
