The curious case of Morecambe FC, Tyson Fury and a bust rugby club
Morecambe are in the third tier after a final day escape in May. For the majority of their 101-year existence, they were a modest non-League club. In the past six years, the club has been owned by Diego Lemos, a Brazilian businessman and Abdulrahman Al Hashemi, who was a Qatari. Graham Burnard took over the business and in 2018, Bond Group Investments Limited took 82 per cent of the shareholding. The new owners are Whittingham and Goldring. They are said to have kept their distance from the day-to-day operations and entrusted a local board of directors to run the team.
