The five biggest spreads for the 2023-24 season

Well, sports fans, we’ve still got a couple months to go before the NFL 2023 season officially kicks off. But not to worry, we can already see the five biggest spreads in the NFL this season. No surprise here: the Philadelphia Eagles are on the winning side of the biggest spread of the season (so far).

Football headlines are already flying – and the odds are already in. In fact, you can currently wager on point spreads, moneylines and totals or over/under for every game of the season.

Week 1 of the 2023 NFL regular season starts on Thursday, Sep. 7. Then we’ve got wall-to-wall football every week until Week 18 closes the regular season on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024. Playoffs are Jan. 13 - Feb. 11, 2024.

DraftKings Sportsbook has odds out for every single game – as well as props, futures, season specials, and more. Of the 272 games, 54 of them have just a one-point spread as of June 2023. While those odds will change a lot over the summer as training camps and the pre-season commence, it’s pretty exciting how many close matchups and storied rivalries we have to look forward to.

We’ve also got some big point spreads with dominant top teams facing the struggling crews at the bottom. Big point spreads can be a fun way to win big on an underdog story or put down money early on when you think the odds might get closer as the season approaches.

So, without further ado, here are the five most lopsided spreads in the NFL this season.

All the odds below are taken from DraftKings Sportsbook and are accurate as of June 19, 2023. With DraftKings, new users are greeted with a $50 bonus bet + a playthrough of up to $1,000. Remember to compare odds across the best sportsbooks to make sure you’re getting the best deal on any wager.

DraftKings is the first major sportsbook to release game lines for every matchup this season. FanDuel currently has NFL Futures and game lines for the first few weeks and several of the most popular matchups. Plus, they just introduced a brand new welcome offer which gives new users 10x their first bet, up to $200. BetMGM has futures and game lines for the first few weeks. Using the code “MLIVEMGM” will get new users up to $1,000 paid back in bonus bets if your first bet doesn’t cash. Caesars Sportsbook has futures, stats, and spreads for every game through December 31. You can access their welcome offer with the exclusive promo code “SLMLIVEFULL”

Let’s check out the biggest spreads we have going so far. Expect some of these spreads to shrink and some to get even bigger as the season approaches.

This NFC matchup strongly favors the San Francisco 49ers, who finished at the top of the NFC West with a 13-4 record but lost to Philadelphia in the Conference Finals. They held onto players like Christian McCaffrey, Elijah Mitchell, Deebo Samuel, Trent Williams, and more.

Of course, they’re still in the midst of starting QB drama, with a continuing question mark for the ideal choice. Fans are debating Brock Purdy vs. Trey Lance, though it’s hard to tell if either can become a franchise QB.

On the Arizona side, the Cardinals ended their 2022-2023 season with a 4-13 record, last in the NFC West and third to last in the league. Their focus this year? Rebuilding.

All in all, there are a lot of question marks for both teams. But a home game in San Francisco for the NFC West defending champs? We’d say this spread is fair.

Oh, Houston. The Texans have struggled through three losing seasons after making it to the playoffs two years in a row in 2018-2019.

Now they’re trying to rebuild behind the No. 2 overall 2023 draft pick, quarterback C.J. Stroud. The former Ohio State quarterback enters the season with massive expectations. Fans are hoping they’ve found a franchise QB after seeing a lot of chaos in the position since losing the problematic Deshaun Watson.

But it would be a steep mountain to climb to beat the strong Bengals team. Cincinnati finished the 2022 regular season 12-4 and cruised to the Conference Finals, where they lost by a field goal to the eventual Super Bowl Champs. The Bengals are first in the AFC North.

This year, they’ve still got their young superstar QB Joe Burrow and have added some key positions like left tackle Orlando Brown, Jr., who came from the Chiefs.

The Chicago Bears are serious underdogs to the Super Bowl defending champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Bears ended the 2022-2023 season with a 3-14 record that put them dead last in the whole league – nearly tied with the Houston Texans, but with one additional loss (the Texans managed to tie the Colts in Week 1).

The Chiefs, meanwhile, had a dominant regular season in addition to – oh yes – winning the Super Bowl. They went exactly the flip of the Bears with 14 wins and 3 losses and finished at the top of the league.
