The former Cardiff Rugby man who has brought the good times back to a city centre bar

Karl is the general manager of Barocco in Cardiff city centre. He relaunched the bar in August 2021 after it had been closed for nine months. Karl has run bars for 40 years. Before that he worked in hospitality at Arms Park and as a player liaison officer at Cardiff Rugby Club. After the pandemic he was on furlough for three months and was fed patients in hospital for six months during the crisis. The rule of six was still in place at the time, so Karl and John Sullivan had to delay the relaunch until August. The restrictions were lifted at Christmas time. It was marvellous, but Karl didn't want to open the place until people could walk in and get the drinks.
