The highest scoring World Cup games are the games with at least 10 goals scored.
Austria beat Switzerland 7-5 in a World Cup match in Lausanne on 26 June 1954. The match was played in 40 °C heat. Austria won the match but lost to West Germany in the semi-final four days later. in this World cup game, a player from both teams scored a hat-trick in normal time. It is the only time in history that a team has had three players score a treble in one game.
Poland's 6-5 defeat to Brazil in 1938 was the highest-scoring match in the FIFA World Cup. Austria's 7-4 Switzerland victory in 1954 was second highest. Hungary's 8-3 win over West Germany in 1950 and their 10-1 win against El Salvador in 1982 are the only other matches in which both teams scored double figures.
