Verstappen has been racing since he was a junior. He has a Formula 1 driver father, Jos Verstoppen, as a mentor. Ver stappens signed with Van Amersfoort for the 2014 FIA European Formula 3 championship.

Max Verstappen won all three races of the European F3 championship at Spa-Francorchamps. Helmut Marko signed him. He is currently fifth in the championship. He has no experience in Formula One.
