The worlds of crime and sport go hand in glove, with betting markets worth £1.5 trillion
Infiltrating sport has been easy for criminals. US government placed a $5m bounty on the heads of the three most senior figures in an Irish crime gang. Daniel Kinahan has previously been named in the Irish courts as the head of one of Europe's most prominent drug outfits. His father, Christopher Snr, 65, and brother, Chris Jnr, 41, are also on their most wanted list. Kinahans has worked with and advised world champion boxers. Scottish football was also allegedly contaminated by drugs money. Police Scotland teamed up with Scotland’s Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and Abertay University on a course aimed at warning young people about the dangers of criminals within sports.
