Tigers and Bears on the move in SEC, Big 12
Georgia won the CFP National Championship game 65-7 against TCU from the Big 12. This week's column is about the college football game played last night. It is a Big12 and SEC game. It will be feisty like the fans and challenging from start to finish.
The season ended with the CFP National Championship game played at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Georgia of the SEC were looking to repeat against the underdog TCU Horned Frogs from the Big 12. It was a dominant performance by the Bulldogs who put their foot on the gas and never let up, coasting to a 65-7 win.
Mike Leach, head football coach at Mississippi State passed away in December. South Carolina's team wore “Swing Your Sword” shirts to honor Leaches. The Gamecocks won the game 58-51.
Baylor is up the polls after beating two ranked Big 12 opponents on the road. They won at #19 Oklahoma 81-70 on Jan. 3 and then beat #23 Kansas 75-62 in Lawrence. Sarah Andrews was 8-for-17 from the three-point line in the two wins.
Andrews was named Big 12 Player of the Week on Jan. 9.
#5 LSU is one of four remaining undefeated teams in the country. The Tigers have beaten their four SEC opponents by an average of 27 points. They are playing next to Missouri on Jan. 12.
Middle Tennessee is 12-2 on the year and 5-0 in Conference USA. Four players are averaging double figures on their team. They allow just 56.9 points/game and cause over 17 turnovers/ game. Next up for MTSU is a rematch with Rice at home on Jan. 11.
South Carolina stays at #1 in the AP Poll. Stanford (16-1) is in at No.2, Ohio State (3-0) and UConn (4-2) are in top 3. LSU breaks into the top 5, up 2 spots to #5. Illinois is ranked at number 23 for the first time in 23 years.

Rori Harmon has been a key player for Texas in the early games of Big 12 play. Brittney Smith of Georgia has helped her team win two games in a row. Ashley Joens is breaking Cyclone records. Iowa State is 2-1 in league play and hosts K-State on Jan. 11. The Dawgs will be looking for three in-a-row when they host Ole Miss on January 12. . .. It means that the next great talent is leaving their mark on the basketball program and institution.
Iowa State and Oklahoma played a great game on Sunday. The game was decided on the last possession. Iowa State won 82-79. Stephanie Soares, a junior post, will miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury. They will play each other in a rematch on January 28th in Ames. The teams will be in the Big 12/SEC conference in two years. The team that won the game is expected to be the Tigers and Bears.

The game against DePaul was postponed because of injuries. The Huskies have won six straight games. They have only six scholarship players available. The Big East Conference requires schools to have seven scholarshipists for every game.
The Big East needs to decide when and how to reschedule the games. UConn is scheduled to play at St. John's on Wednesday, Jan. 11. The game will be postponed if the opponent's schedule is affected. The Big E needs also to consider the needs and schedules of the opponents affected by the postponement.

The CFP National Championship game proved that it's not just one player that makes the difference between a win or a loss.
