NCAAW Breakdown: Upsets Wreak Havoc With Rankings
There are only three undefeated teams left in the NCAAW. South Carolina and Louisiana State are the only ones from the Southeastern Conference. Maryland and Indiana are playing each other this week. Stanford is playing UCLA. Las Vegas odds have South Korea as the favorite to win the national title.
Baylor is 3-0 in the Big 12 and is in first place. They beat Oklahoma and Kansas. Sarah Andrews had 57 points.
South Carolina is the top-ranked team in the NCAAW. They beat Mississippi State 58-51. It was the first single-digit victory for the Gamecocks since a 73-64 win over UCLA on Nov. 29. Columbia beat Princeton for first time in 15 years on Friday.
Columbia won against Princeton last night. It was the first time since 2008 that they beat the Tigers.
It was a bad week for the national polls with four top-10 teams losing and 12 teams in the Top 25 losing. St. John's suffered its first loss of the season at Seton Hall on Wednesday. Creighton lost at home to Providence 79-75. Boston College beat North Carolina State 79,71. No. 22 North Carolin fell to Miami 62-58. Virginia Tech was tied with Virginia and Duke had to work for a win over Wake Forest. Colorado beat then eighth-ranked Utah 77-67.
UConn moved up a spot to No. 4 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 rankings. DePaul was supposed to play UConn on Sunday, but Aaliyah Edwards and Ayanna Patterson were injured in their win over Xavier. The game was called off. Uconn is scheduled to face St. John's on Wednesday and Georgetown on the XL Center on Sundays. Azzi Fudd and Caroline Ducharme could be available for both games.
The Miami Hurricanes upset North Carolina and beat Virginia Tech. Jasmyne Roberts averaged 16.5 points and 8. 5 rebounds in the two games. Haley Cavinder averaged about 16 points. The bench outscored the North and Virginia teams 38-14.
Maddy Siegrist is averaging 33.3 points on 58% shooting and 9. 3 rebounds per game this season. Villanova moved into the Associated Press poll at No. 25. Siegist recently moved by Rebecca Lobo on the Big East’s career scoring list.
Maryland is playing Indiana on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. ET. Stanford plays UCLA on Friday at 11 p.,m., ET (Pac-12 Network). Diamond Miller is averaging 20 points in the last eight games for Maryland. Mackenzie Holmes has four straight 20-point games and three double-doubles for Indiana. Charisma Osborne is back for UCLA after she missed a game with a shoulder injury.
