NCAAW Breakdown: Fighting Irish Take A Top-10 Showdown
South Carolina is the top-ranked team in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. Notre Dame, Iowa St. and Arizona all defeated ranked teams on Sunday. There will be three pairings of ranked team on Tuesday. No. 16 Oregon meets undefeated Arkansas at the San Diego Invitational, No 19 Michigan plays No 6 North Carolina in Jumpman Invitee and No 21 Creighton travels to No 2 Stanford.
It was a great Sunday for women's basketball. Stanford beat Tennessee 77-70. Notre Dame beat Virginia Tech 63-52. Iowa St. beat Villanova 74-62. Aaliyah Edwards and Lou Lopez Senechal scored 49 points for UConn. Ta’Niya Latson scored 24 points in 26 minutes for Florida St., while Shaina Pellington had 18 points and eight rebounds for Arizona.
No. 5 Notre Dame beat No. 6 Virginia Tech 63-52.
UCLA Southern California beat USC 59-56. Gina Conti clinched the win with a late steal. Charisma Osborne recorded her third double-double of the season (14 points, 13 rebounds). Kadi Sissoko led the Trojans with 20 points.
The Gamecocks are the defending national champion. They have three wins against ranked teams this season. Chloe Kitts had a good game against Charleston Southern. Aliyah Boston is the favorite to repeat as the national player of the year.
Virginia, St. John's, Kansas and South Carolina are the only undefeated Division I women's basketball teams in the country. St John’s is the last team in Big East. Virginia played just five games last season and lost all. Kansas won just eight games.
Arizona Wildcats beat Baylor 75-54 in Dallas. Jade Loville had her fourth straight double-digit scoring game. Esmery Martinez and Texas native Cate Reese had a combined 21 points and 28 rebounds. Arizona advanced two spots in the latest AP poll to No. 18.
Reese and the No. 10 LSU Tigers won two games by a total of 71 points in the Maui Classic. Reese had 55 points and 32 rebounds in wins over Montana St. and Oregon St., and has 11 consecutive double-doubles in her first season at Baton Rouge.
Arkansas is undefeated and will play Oregon at the San Diego Invitational on Tuesday, December 20th at 4 p.m. ET.
