Today's Best MLB Bets: Odds, lines, & picks for Thursday

BetQL Five-Star Bet: Nationals vs. Rockies OVER 11 (-105)

The BetQL model is loving some total bets on today’s small slate, and one of those totals is the over in the Nationals-Rockies game. We have this projected at 11.5 runs, so we love having the extra insurance there. Both teams are off to a rough start this season, with the Nats sitting at 1-5 and the Rockies at 2-4. The pitching matchup today could lead to a ton of home runs. As you may know, Coors Field is the only place in baseball where you will have a total set at 11. The short field and high altitude make it easy to crush baseballs.

The Nationals are sending Josiah Gray to the hill today, and I feel it won’t be pretty. Gray has posted an HR/9 of 2.30 or higher over the past two seasons, and it doesn’t look like he has improved at all on that. In his first outing of the season, Gray got taken deep three times against the Braves.

The Rockies have tabbed Kyle Freeland as the starter for today’s game. Freeland tossed six shutout innings and earned a win at San Diego in his first start of 2023. However, he leaned on his defense all night with just one strikeout and two swinging strikes all game. Today at Coors Field could be a much different story.

Thursday's top MLB player prop

Tigers SP Spencer Turnball OVER 2.5 ER (+115) vs. Red Sox

This should be a pretty high-scoring game between two pitchers who struggled in their first starts, but we will go with the guy who is giving us plus money. Turnbull was destroyed in his first start last week as he started the game by letting up a single, wild pitch, single, double, and walk without getting an out. He finished by allowing seven runs on eight hits and three walks over 2.1 innings pitched against the Rays.

He had his best season in 2021 but then needed Tommy John surgery. We will see if he can be the pitcher he used to be again, but I will bet against it here at plus money for him to allow three earned runs in this start.

MLB betting trends for Thursday

Not only does the BetQL model find the most valuable MLB bets every day, but it also finds some fantastic betting trends to help you make more informed bets. Whether that be a situational, historical, or coaching trend, we have something for every game that shows why a team might be valuable that night.

Red Sox-Tigers: Alex Cora is 95-67 SU in the first half of the season while coaching Boston.

Giants-White Sox: For some reason, the San Francisco Giants are just 3-13 SU when playing on Thursday over the last two years.

Blue Jays-Royals: Jays starting pitcher Kevin Gausman is 24-9 SU vs. teams whose hitters strike out 7.0 or more times per game while on the road over the last three years.

Nationals-Rockies: Bud Black is 64-48 SU after six or more consecutive road games while coaching Colorado.

Padres-Braves: Brian Snitker is 77-61 SU with a team slugging percentage of .430 or better on the season while coaching Atlanta.

Dodgers-Diamondbacks: Los Angeles Dodgers are 28-9 SU as a road favorite of -125 to -175 over the last two years.
