Tottenham tipped to complete shock Premier League transfers as Postecoglou faces triple blow

Ange Postecoglou could be set for a very busy January transfer window if Tottenham continue their superb start to the 2023/24 season. Spurs currently sit top of the Premier League table after an unbeaten beginning to the league campaign with Postecoglou's side ahead of London rivals Arsenal on goal difference.

Marquee wins over Manchester United and Liverpool have already arrived this campaign with Spurs also picking up a well-deserved point away to the Gunners. Summer signings James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario have already made an immediate impression since joining, while Cristian Romero and Pedro Porro are currently enjoying their best spells in north London.

The superb form of Spurs under Postecoglou has likely arrived because they have been able to build consistency with ten players all starting at least seven league games. Brennan Johnson, Manor Solomon and Richarlison have all been fighting for the final position without an obvious starter on the left of the attack, but due to injuries, the latter has been used in the role more recently.

While Spurs' best starting XI can compete with the top teams in England, their squad depth remains an issue with that problem highlighted by the defeat to Fulham in the Carabao Cup where nine of the usual starters were rested. That means strengthening those options in January is absolutely vital with injuries to Maddison, Son Heung-min or Yves Bissouma likely to prove costly, however Spurs already know they will be losing two thirds of that trio.

In line with that, Sky Bet have began running transfer odds for players that could move on in January and Spurs have been listed as a surprising destination for a Premier League duo. Wolves star Pedro Neto is a firm target for Arsenal and Liverpool with two clubs at 6/1 and 8/1 to sign him, respectively.

However, coming in closely behind at 12/1 is Tottenham with Manchester United bringing up the rear. With Bissouma and Sarr as midfielders likely to be on their travels at the start of 2024 and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg still being linked to an exit, an acquisition in the engine room would make perfect sense and a possible option has emerged for the Lilywhites.

Kalvin Phillips has struggled to make an impact at Manchester City since his 2022 transfer from Leeds and now Spurs are at odds of 20/1 to sign him in January. Although, Newcastle, Aston Villa, West Ham, Liverpool and Arsenal are all above Postecoglou's side as possible teams that could sign the England international.
