Tough-luck A’s draw No. 6 pick in 2023 lottery
Oakland Athletics finished with MLB's second-worst record in 2022. They lost 102 games. The A's got the No. 6 pick in the draft lottery for the 2023 first round. Pittsburgh got No 1 pick and Washington got 2nd. New draft-bonus system introduced this year discourages teams from tanking. A’s were reinstated as revenue-sharing recipients in new CBA. The Tigers, Rangers and Twins jumped over them into the 3-through-5 slots for next year”s first draft. Reds and Royals slipped to the 7-8 spots. It was the first time the lottery was used.
Jeff Criswell is traded to Colorado for Chad Smith. Forst did not confirm a report that the A's agreed to a two-year deal with Jace Peterson. Peterson has played at least 100 games at various positions in his career.
