UFC Fight Night: Bryce Mitchell vs Dan Ige Odds, Picks & Predictions

Bryce Mitchell and Dan Ige will each be looking to use this fight as a momentum builder in the featherweight division. Although Mitchell has some drama outside of the octagon, our UFC picks believe he'll get the job done Saturday.

Bryce Mitchell vs. Dan Ige is the co-main event to this weekend’s UFC Fight Night at The Apex, and these top-ranked featherweights are heading into the octagon with a lot on the line.

Mitchell’s controversies since his loss to Ilia Topuria must take a backseat as Ige is ready to resume his role as the division’s dark horse contender.

UFC odds have Mitchell favored at -205, and Ige is a +170 underdog. Here are my free picks for Mitchell vs. Ige at UFC Fight Night from Las Vegas.

Bryce Mitchell vs Dan Ige picks

Fight prediction: Mitchell ML

Conventional wisdom would suggest that Bryce Mitchell should win this fight. He’s got a great ground game, and that’s something that Ige has struggled with in the past. However, I am cautiously backing Mitchell here. He took the Topuria loss pretty hard, he’s handling private issues turned private with an ex-girlfriend destroying his fruit trees, and he’s been out of action for nine months and floated the idea of retiring.

Unlike Mitchell, Ige is not coming into this fight with one foot out the door. He’s looked great in back-to-back wins over Damon Jackson and Nate Landwehr and is trying to get back on another long win streak to re-establish his status as a top contender. Ige rattled off six wins in a row from 2018-2020, but a loss to Calvin Kattar derailed his title aspirations — going 3-3 since.

As tough as Ige is, he doesn’t have the means to handle a relentless wrestler like Mitchell. Ige isn’t going to cruise to a win by stuffing a few takedowns, as evident from what we saw in Mitchell’s win over Edson Barbosa. With Ige backpedaling in an attempt to keep Mitchell off him, he’ll run out of real estate and find the floor in short order.

I'm banking on Mitchell to find his focus and purging some of his demons and the demise of the hard-luck Ige in the co-main event.

Prediction: Mitchell moneyline (-205 at DraftKings)

Fight best bet: Mitchell by decision

So much of how this fight plays out is on Mitchell. He is going to stalk Ige and try to shoot in for takedowns, all while Ige tries to jab his way out of trouble and rely on his footwork and takedown defense to diffuse Mitchell. This may not be the fight for action junkies, but that depends on Mitchell’s aggression.

Ige hasn’t been stopped or submitted in his MMA career but has suffered greatly against grapplers over the last few years, often losing a lopsided decision after taking multiple takedowns. With Mitchell only having one finish in five wins during his UFC tenure, this is a fight that is destined for the scorecards.

This fight could go south in a hurry for the underdog if Mitchell can get him on the mat, but Ige’s resiliency will keep him in the fight. That said, expect Mitchell to make the most of this style mismatch and score a dominant decision over the rugged veteran.

Bryce Mitchell vs Dan Ige betting preview

Bryce Mitchell is returning to the octagon nine months after the Topuria loss. Hailing from Arkansas, Mitchell is a highly skilled wrestler with a decorated amateur background and a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Ige has won his last two fights in a row, with his most recent win being a decision against Landwehr. The well-rounded Ige is a tactical striker who can land crushing blows and is always willing to engage. At one point, Ige was the talk of the featherweight division, putting together an impressive six-win streak.

This fight figures to be a classical striker-versus-grappler match. Although Mitchell is not a striker, he tends to outstrike his opponents while setting up his ground game. A key to Ige’s recent success has been his matchmaking against like-styled strikers, which has been for the best. However, during his three-fight skid, he couldn’t stop takedowns, being brought to the mat 12 times.
