Valspar Championship betting preview

This week, the fourth and last of the PGA Tour’s Florida Swing, might lack the gravitas and glamour of the first three events but from a punting point of view, it might represent the best opportunity to land a winner.

The Copperhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort provides a distinct test and in the 21 visits the circuit has made to it we’ve been handed more than a few clues about the profile of likely winners.

The first factor to consider is the importance of the short holes.

There are, unusually, five of them so it makes sense that par-3 specialists thrive and they have done just that over the years.

Another key element to the test is the many elevation changes.

Winners here have typically transferred good form from similar undulating courses such as Augusta National and TPC Deere Run.

Valspar Championship betting tips

Justin Rose to win

Given that strong Augusta angle, Jordan Spieth will appeal to many but he’s still finding a way to ruin a lot of good golf with one or two very poor holes.

Instead, take Englishman Justin Rose who is not only a two-time Masters runner-up, he’s also a winner this year and warmed up nicely with sixth at last week’s PLAYERS Championship.

He also owns a fine course record which includes three top-eight finishes in his last six visits.

Adam Hadwin to win

Canada’s Adam Hadwin has an even better championship log book, being a winner of the event in 2017 and he’s added two top 12 finishes since then.

Not only is he a fine performer on the par-3s (ranking fifth this season on tour), there is also an intriguing trend regarding his form.

In years when he has played well at Scottsdale and Sawgrass he has threatened here – and when he struggles at one of the events, he struggles at them all.

This year he was 10th at Scottsdale and 13th at Sawgrass.

Dylan Frittelli to be first round leader

If TPC Deere Run and Augusta National are good guides then the fact that Dylan Frittelli has won at the former and finished fifth at the latter has to be of interest.

He’s also a South African and his countrymen have a good record at Innisbrook with Retief Goosen winning twice and Charl Schwartzel also lifting the trophy.

Frittelli has played this tournament once finishing 37th with a third-round 67 that was the second-low score of the day.

He’s also carded 65s in two of his last four starts.

And, in addition to the win at Deere Run, he was also fifth after 18 holes last year and was the joint Thursday night leader when fifth at the Masters.
