Vancouver Canucks at New York Islanders odds, picks and predictions

FDL Reporter

The Vancouver Canucks (26-11-3) and New York Islanders (18-11-10) meet Tuesday at UBS Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook's lines around the Canucks vs Islanders odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

This is the 2nd meeting this season between these teams. The Canucks edged the Isles 4-3 in OT on Nov. 15, cashing as a (-147) home favorite. The Over has come through in the last 7 meetings dating back to Feb. 2020.

Vancouver started its road trip with a 2-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues Thursday but bounced back by beating the New Jersey Devils 6-4 Saturday. The Canucks kept it rolling Monday, taking down the New York Rangers 6-3.

The Islanders have returned home after losing 3 of 4 games on their most recent road trip. New York is 5-1-1 to the Over in its last 7 games.

Canucks at Islanders projected goalies

Casey DeSmith (6-3-2, 2.58 GAA, .917 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Ilya Sorokin (12-7-8, 3.17 GAA, .909 SV%, 2 SO)

DeSmith is projected to be in net in as G Thatcher Demko tended the pipes Monday night at Madison Square Garden. The former Pittsburgh Penguins netminder has taken on the Isles in each of the past 2 seasons, allowing a total of 9 goals. The last time DeSmith saw the ice was on Dec. 28 when he allowed 4 goals in a 4-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Entering Tuesday, no goaltender has faced more shots and made more saves this season than Sorokin. The 28-year-old All-Star sports the highest Expected Goals Against number in the Eastern Conference as the Isles team defense has struggled at times this season.

Canucks at Islanders picks and predictions

Prediction

Canucks 3, Islanders 2

BET CANUCKS (-102).

C Elias Pettersson is "worth everything," according to his former coach Bruce Boudreau, as the 25-year-old Swede is a restricted free agent and set to become a very rich man after this season. Pettersson has had multi-goal efforts in 3 of his last 4 games, and no player in the Western Conference has registered more game-winners.

RW Brock Boeser comes into Tuesday night tied with Oilers LW Zach Hyman atop the Western Conference with the most goals scored (25). D Quinn Hughes leads all defensemen in assists and is the current favorite to win the Norris Trophy (-105 at FanDuel Sportsbook).

The Canucks come in with the best goal differential in the NHL (+50), while the Isles have allowed 9 more goals than they have scored. Even on short rest, Vancouver is the better team and it should get the win.

PASS.

Three of the last 4 victories for the Islanders have come by multiple goals, so I would rather take my chances on Vancouver to win at nearly even money.

BET UNDER 6.5 (-120).

The Canucks blue line got a key piece back in their lineup this past Saturday in Newark as D Carson Soucy returned from injury and led the team with 4 blocked shots. I expect Vancouver to bog down key Isles players like C Brock Nelson, who has just 1 goal in his last 6 games.
